We are thrilled to have Daniel Wallace help shape the exhibition and select the exceptional works that will be featured. His perspective promises to bring a unique and inspiring influence to the exhibition process.

Daniel Wallace

Daniel began his education in Fine Art at the Baltimore School for the Arts as a teenager. In 2008, while studying Painting and Printmaking at the Maryland Institute College of Art, he collaborated on designing the first public art installation in Baltimore’s Mt. Vernon Square. This pivotal experience sparked his decade-long career as an arts organizer, during which he produced numerous exhibitions, performances, and public art events.

In Philadelphia, Daniel served as Project Coordinator at First Person Arts, a nonprofit dedicated to storytelling. In 2009, he founded Extra Extra, a gallery that quickly earned a reputation for supporting emerging artists. The projects extended beyond gallery walls, with public installations at Philadelphia City Hall and ICA Philadelphia, and the creation of interactive virtual spaces.

Daniel’s curatorial work continued with the founding of American Medium in New York, a gallery and online platform that explored the intersection of art and technology. Through exhibitions, performances, and digital projects, they spotlighted diverse voices, particularly women, LGBTQ+ artists, and artists of color. Their work was featured in major publications like the New York Times and Artforum and they managed the fabrication of public installations for the American Pavillion at the 55th Venice Biennale and the High Line in New York.

From 2018 to 2024, Daniel worked as the Program Coordinator at Howl Arts, a nonprofit gallery preserving the artistic legacy of Manhattan’s Lower East Side. He led projects such as “Bringing Back Bowery: Public Art as Protest” and adapted the programs to virtual formats during the pandemic. His efforts also included a website redesign, launching an online store, and developing virtual educational programs.

Currently, Daniel serves as the Executive Director of Northwest Designer Craftartists (NWDC), a nonprofit promoting excellence in design and craftsmanship. Under his leadership, they’ve rebranded the organization to reflect their values of diversity and inclusion, created new committees, and expanded their outreach to artists and institutions throughout the Pacific Northwest.

The Anacortes Arts Festival and the Fine Art Committee are thrilled to have Daniel as a juror and look forward to his contributions to the Festival's Art at the Depot - Fine Art Exhibition.
